Our patients receive specialty care services with access to clinical research trials and studies applicable to our patients. 

Neuromuscular Medicine

The neuromuscular medicine clinical team consists of faculty neurologists, physician scientists, nurse practitioners, nurses,  medical assistants and admins. Our care team specialists provide support services designed to increase the quality of life for our patients.  Our patients may receive medication strategies and treatment options with access to clinical research trials and studies for neuromuscular disorders such as:

Inherited and acquired neuropathy

  • Acquired neuropathies such as Guillain-Barré syndrome (“AIDP”), CIDP, amyloid, diabetic, Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN)
  • Inherited neuropathies such as  Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), Hereditary Neuropathy with Liability to Pressure Palsies (HNPP)
  • Other causes of neuropathy 

Nerve Injury and Disorders 

  • Brachial plexus disorders such as brachial neuritis (Parsonage Turner syndrome)
  • Compression of nerves 

Motor Neuron Disorders

  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Motor Neuron Disease
  • Primary Lateral Sclerosis
  • Hereditary SpasticPparaplegia (HSP)
  • Post-polio syndrome
  • Benign fasciculation/cramp disorders

Muscular dystrophy

  • Becker Muscular Dystrophy, BMD
  • Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, DMD
  • Fascioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy, FSHD
  • Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophies, LGMD
  • Myotonic dystrophy

Myopathy (muscle disease) including: 

  • Inclusion body myositis (“IBM”)
  • Statin Associated Mytosis
  • Dermatomyositis
  • Necrotizing Myopathy
  • Inherited muscle disorders

Neuromuscular Junction Disorders

  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Lambert Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS)
  • Botulism

Resources for patients and families:

The Muscular Dystrophy Association work with families in New England, across the United States, and internationally. They help provide resources including equipment, educational workshops, Medicare/Medicaid assistance, guidance and awareness in living with neuromuscular diseases, caregiving, and end-of-life issues. Additional resources for patients, including research, are also listed.
