February Fellow Spotlight: Leon Itwar, DO

In this month’s Fellow Spotlight, we feature Leon Itwar, DO, an Endocrinology fellow at UMass Chan. We recently caught up with Dr. Itwar to learn more about his clinical and research interests, why he chose UMass Chan for his fellowship, and why Japan is one of his favorite places to travel!

What are your clinical and research interests?  
General Endocrinology. I am interested in all aspects and hope to develop into a well-rounded specialist after my fellowship. 

Why did you choose UMass Chan for your fellowship?  
I chose UMass Chan for Endocrinology due to its strong reputation and ideal location for training. Being a large tertiary care center, exposure to a wide variety of cases was what I was looking for and this has amplified my training. Additionally, the collegial nature at UMass Chan makes training enjoyable. 

Where is your favorite place to travel for vacation and why?  
Japan for its amazing food! 

What topping does not belong on pizza? 
Pineapple, no explanation needed! 

Favorite holiday? 
Thanksgiving or any holiday when food is involved!  

Favorite guilty pleasure snack? 
Popcorn.
