Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences!

We are a department dedicated to advancing health promotion for all through population health research, with a strong emphasis on quantitative methodology. Our senior faculty are scientists with expertise in health promotion, implementation science, and quantitative methodology leading health-related research programs, and about half are also physicians. We have a passion for the science of moving from discovery to improving individual and population health. We believe in science that makes a difference and collective creativity. Part of our mission is to develop and train the next generation of researchers with whom to share this passion.

We also house a Quantitative Methods Core (QMC) in collaboration with the Biostatistics and Epidemiology Research Design (BERD) component of the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS). Additionally, we are home to the Research Informatics Core, also part of CCTS, which supports data science through advanced informatics tools and methodologies.

We offer several series of meetings open to the campus community, ranging from formal presentations to informal "just-in-time" discussions on nascent ideas. Please browse our website to find more detailed information about us.
