April Fellow Spotlight: Suong Nguyen, MD
In this month’s Fellow Spotlight, we feature Suong Nguyen, MD, a Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care fellow at UMass Chan. We recently caught up with Dr. Nguyen to learn more about her clinical and research interests, why she chose UMass Chan for her fellowship, and why Japan is one of her favorite places to travel!
Hometown?
Russellville, Arkansas (Woo Pig Sooie!)
What are your clinical and research interests?
It’s hard to say because I find everything interesting, but if I had to choose, I would say interstitial lung disease (ILD) and interventional pulmonology.
Why did you choose UMass Chan for your fellowship?
During the interview, the fellows seemed to have a great relationship with one another, and now they’re like my little family here.
Are you involved in any other groups or activities at UMass Chan that you’d like to highlight?
PCCM run club! We get together once a week with the fellows and attendings (whoever can make it) and we run/walk at the lake, then have dinner afterward. We try to eat somewhere different every week so that we can also explore the different foods the area has to offer.
Where is your favorite place to travel for vacation and why?
There are so many places to choose from, but my most favorite, thus far, was Japan. I love the culture, history, people, and, of course, the food and shopping. We went snowboarding in Nagano and the views were amazing. We also made a lot of friends there!
What is your go-to board game?
Catan. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and people learn there are no friends in this game.
In your spare time, what TV show do you binge?
Law & Order: SVU. It’s my all time favorite. I can watch it over and over again and not get bored.
What song/artist do you hope comes on first when you press random play on your playlist?
I’m a huge Stray Kids fan (K-pop). I will be seeing them soon!
