What is CCUS?
CCUS stands for clonal cytopenia of unknown significance. It is a type of CHIP in which there are low blood counts. It is also an early version of more active blood cancers, such as MDS and AML.
Patients who have CCUS are at a slightly higher risk for progression to an active blood cancer compared to patients with CHIP. The reason for the low blood counts is that the blood-forming stem cells have a mutation. CCUS is one step before MDS.
